Hbase – Installation,Configurations & Settings

1> Go through this link for installation

http://hbase.apache.org

2> Download link for hbase

http://mirrors.axint.net/apache/hbase/

3> Extract the HBase from the package and place in required path, preferably in same where hadoop is placed

4> Configuring HBase with java

— To start using HBase we just need to provide only one configuration that is to find where we have stored our java, to do this open your hbase/conf/hbase-env.sh

— Uncomment the following line in the file

“export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/j2sdk1.6-sun”
— set the path to the java installed in your system
— in my system it is “export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_29”

5> Site Specific configuration

— As compared to Hadoop in HBase we have only one file to configure “hbase-site.xml”, which is in hbase/conf directory

— We have two types of configuration for HBase as detailed below

— Stand alone mode, the hbase-site.xml should be like this

hbase.rootdir
file:///path/to/store/data
The directory shared by region servers. Should be fully-qualified to include the filesystem to use. E.g:hdfs://NAMENODE_SERVER:PORT/HBASE_ROOTDIR

— Distributed mode

hbase.rootdir
hdfs://localhost:54310/hbase
The directory shared by region servers. Should be fully-qualified to include the filesystem to use. E.g:hdfs://NAMENODE_SERVER:PORT/HBASE_ROOTDIR

hbase.cluster.distributed
true

hbase.master.port
60000

hbase.master
localhost:60000

hbase.zookeeper.quorum
localhost

hbase.regionserver
localhost:60020

hbase.master.info.port
60010

hbase.regionserver.info.port
60030

hbase.master.info.bindAddress
0.0.0.0

hbase.regionserver.info.bindAddress
0.0.0.0

hbase.zookeeper.property.clientPort
2181
Property from ZooKeeper’s config zoo.cfg.
The port at which the clients will connect.

6> To start HBase

— If running in stand alone mode

— open terminal

HBASE_PATH$bin/start-hbase.sh

— If running in distributed mode

— start your hadoop first

HBASE_PATH$ bin/start-hbase.sh

7> To check whether HBase is running

$jps

— you should see output something like this

9292 Jps
3491 TaskTracker
4145 HRegionServer
3897 HMaster
3266 JobTracker
6167 Main
3846 HQuorumPeer
2951 DataNode
2682 NameNode
3187 SecondaryNameNode

8> To stop HBase

HBASE_PATH$ bin/stop-hbase.sh

/*————————-To use the web interfaces———————————-*/

http://localhost:60010 for master
http://localhost:60030 for region server
